The alignment of your eyes is essential to your ability to see the world around you clearly. However, it can also be responsible for symptoms such as dry eyes, headaches, and even neck strain. This misalignment of your eyes can can irritate your trigeminal nerve, the largest nerve connected to your brain, and can cause many symptoms that may appear unrelated to your vision. Neurolens® is the latest technology that allows Dr. Munson at Fort Collins Family Eye Care to give you lenses in your glasses that will align your vision at any distance, relieving the irritation to your trigeminal nerve and, in many cases, eliminating your symptoms entirely. This specialized lens is created based on your Custom Compensation Curve, aligning your vision precisely so that you get relief from your symptoms and a better view of the world around you.

Why Would I Need Neurolens®?

Our digital world makes parts of our lives easier, but it also puts a great deal of strain on our eyes, demanding that we see up close more often, read poorly-defined words, or read with a glare on the screen. Oftentimes, this can lead to what is called Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS), or Digital Eye Strain. The American Optometric Association categorizes this as vision-related problems or discomfort as a result of the frequent use of tablets, smart phones, computers, or other digital devices.

The extent of vision-related problems that you may experience from CVS are dependent upon your visual abilities, such as misalignment, farsightedness, etc. If your vision problems go untreated, they will exacerbate the discomfort you will experience from prolonged digital device use. If you are required to spend a great deal of time in front of a computer or other digital device and experience any of the symptoms listed above, the neurolens® system can relieve your symptoms by actually treating the cause of your discomfort.

Most people suffer from at least some of these symptoms. Are you one of them?

If you’re unsure whether or not neurolens® is right for you, check out the lifestyle index to find out! The Lifestyle index will tell you whether or not the symptoms you’re experiencing could be a result of trigeminal over-stimulation.

The Eye-Brain Connection

When your eyes are overcompensating because of the demand that digital devices put on them, it causes over-stimulation of the trigeminal ganglion and results in trigeminal nerve irritation. Your trigeminal nerve is the largest nerve connected to the brain, meaning that your eye misalignment can be causing far more than just eye irritation. The irritation to your trigeminal nerve is responsible for the headaches, neck stiffness, tired eyes, and even dry eyes.

How Does Neurolens® Work?

During your exam at Fort Collins Family Eye Care, you will be tested using the SightSync® device. This specialized technology measures exactly how much your eyes are overcompensating at different distances. This information produces your Custom Compensation Curve, meaning that the neurolens® is specifically designed and manufactured for your eyes.

By correcting your misalignment in your eyes, your neurolenses® treat the root cause of your symptoms by relieving the stimulation of your trigeminal nerve. Treating the cause of your discomfort yields lasting results. You don’t have to settle for daily headaches, frequent neck pain, and irritating eye strain.

At Fort Collins Family Eye Care we offer our patients unparalleled, comprehensive eye care. If you’re experiencing chronic headaches or any of the other symptoms listed above, call Dr. Munson today at (970) 223-7150 or request an appointment online to see if neurolens® is right for you.
